NEW YORK, Nov. 6, 2026
Transactions add approximately 1,650 beds across two of the firm’s core SEC markets, reflecting continued conviction in the student housing shadow market
NEW YORK, Nov. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Hackberry Lane (“Hackberry”), a vertically integrated student housing investment and operating company, today announced the closing of multiple transactions across Gainesville, Florida (University of Florida) and Tuscaloosa, Alabama (University of Alabama). The acquisitions add approximately 1,650 student housing beds, bringing Hackberry’s total owned portfolio to approximately 4,000 beds.
The newly acquired assets are located near the University of Florida and University of Alabama campuses, deepening Hackberry’s presence in two of its core markets and adding scale to its in-house operating platform.
Hackberry focuses on townhome, single-family, garden-style, and boutique apartment communities in walkable, campus-adjacent corridors. While the broader student housing industry has concentrated on mid- and high-rise purpose-built development, Hackberry targets the more fragmented shadow market, where assets remain largely in the hands of local owner-operators and have rarely been institutionally managed.
