Bidbus has introduced a two-hour live bidding process that allows vehicle owners in California and Texas to present a car to a network of verified local dealers through one digital listing. The online dealer auction is designed to replace separate dealer visits with a structured process in which participating dealerships submit competing bids while the seller follows the activity online.
The service begins with a vehicle listing created from a license plate, vehicle identification number, or year, make, and model. Sellers add current photos and condition information, after which Bidbus provides a market estimate and proposes a minimum selling price for review. The minimum remains private from dealers, who are shown only whether the current bid has met the seller’s threshold.
Once the listing is complete and the minimum selling price is confirmed, the vehicle enters a two-hour auction. Bidbus states that its network includes more than 1,000 verified dealers and that bids are displayed to the seller as they arrive. Dealer contact details and ratings are visible during the process, while the seller’s phone number and email remain unavailable to dealers that do not win the auction.
The minimum selling price establishes the condition for a completed transaction. When the highest bid meets or exceeds that amount, the vehicle is sold to the winning dealership under the platform’s seller terms. If bidding closes below the confirmed minimum, the seller can leave without a seller fee or relist with a revised minimum.
Bidbus does not purchase the vehicle directly. It operates the auction layer between the seller and participating dealerships, with the winning dealer responsible for buying the car and arranging the handoff. Most transactions require delivery to the dealership, although pickup may be available depending on the dealer and location.
The platform also coordinates parts of the post-auction process. Bidbus states that the winning dealership handles title transfer and applicable motor vehicle paperwork, while Bidbus support can assist with release-of-liability filing in California and provide guidance for Texas title transfers. For vehicles with an outstanding loan, the dealer works with the lender on the payoff before any remaining equity is issued to the seller.
Listing a vehicle and running the auction do not carry an upfront fee. Bidbus charges a one percent success fee, subject to a $300 minimum, after a seller accepts a qualifying winning bid. The fee is deducted from sale proceeds, and no seller fee applies when the auction ends below the confirmed minimum selling price.
The online dealer auction format is intended to give sellers one place to manage vehicle information, dealer bidding, privacy, and transaction steps. It also gives dealerships a defined bidding window and a consistent set of vehicle details rather than requiring sellers to repeat the same information across multiple inquiries.
Bidbus currently supports most drivable passenger vehicles with clean titles, including sedans, sport utility vehicles, trucks, electric vehicles, hybrids, and luxury vehicles that meet its age and condition requirements. Branded or salvage titles, motorcycles, heavy commercial vehicles, and vehicles with unrepaired damage are not supported under the current listing criteria.
