Best Medical International (BMI), a TeamBest Global (TBG) company, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, marking five decades of innovation, technological advancement, and a commitment to improving clinical outcomes and saving lives.
After losing his father to colon cancer in 1968, Dr. Krishnan Suthanthiran founded BMI and as President, has dedicated his career to advancing cancer care and developing technologies and initiatives designed to improve the lives of patients worldwide. His vision—to be the best in developing and delivering innovative solutions for cancer and other diseases—has remained at the heart of BMI.
For over 50 years, BMI has acquired and developed companies and technologies that have helped establish TBG as a leader in brachytherapy, vascular brachytherapy, external beam radiation therapy, particle therapy, and theranostics.
BMI pioneered the field of vascular brachytherapy—the use of radiation to treat in-stent coronary arteries restenosis—beginning with animal studies 35 years ago. This work ultimately contributed to U.S. FDA approval in 2000 for the clinical use of vascular brachytherapy to treat in-stent coronary artery restenosis.
Today, BMI and its affiliated company, Best Vascular, continue to advance vascular brachytherapy and expand its application to other forms of vascular stenosis.
BMI promotes theranostics and particle therapy by offering a range of cyclotrons from 7.5 MeV to 230 MeV, variable-energy for proton therapy, and medical synchrotrons up to 400 MeV for heavy-ion particle therapy, from protons to carbon.
Recently, the Best 70-MeV high-current proton cyclotron successfully completed its Factory Acceptance Tests and was shipped to the National Atomic Research Institute in Taipei, Taiwan. It is the second such system delivered by TBG.
Suthanthiran’s commitment to improving healthcare extends beyond technology and commercial ventures. His nonprofit, Global Best Cure Foundation (GBCF), plans to establish the first of several Best Cure Pro Health Centers—proactive healthcare facilities—in South India offering preventive and primary medical care, dental, eye care, and wellness services emphasizing prevention, early detection, healthy living, and accessible healthcare.
GBCF also plans to establish a Best Cure Cancer Center in South India, designed to provide comprehensive cancer care through a nonprofit, 24/7 operating model.
Through these initiatives, TBG, Best Cure Foundation, and GBCF seek to promote greater understanding of nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices, preventive healthcare, and practical approaches to improving long-term health and well-being.
