SAT-I focuses on accessibility concerns that are often overlooked in digital design, including blinking text cursors, animated loading indicators, repetitive interface sounds, motion effects, and noisy computer peripherals. These features can create barriers for people with misophonia, autism, migraine disorders, and other sensory processing differences.
Building on IMF’s previous advocacy with major technology companies, SAT-I will document accessibility barriers, develop practical recommendations, and encourage improvements to digital products.
The initiative’s five initial priorities are non-blinking text cursors, static loading indicators, comprehensive motion controls, individual sound settings, and consistent accessibility preferences across applications and operating systems.
Technology companies, software developers, gaming companies, and hardware manufacturers are invited to join SAT-I’s free Technology Partner program. Participation provides opportunities to review sensory accessibility recommendations and communicate directly about potential improvements. Partners are not required to make financial contributions or commit to implementing changes.
SAT-I also welcomes corporate sponsorships and donations to support accessibility research, education, advocacy, and technology recommendations.
About SAT-I: The Sensory Accessible Technology Initiative is a project of the International Misophonia Foundation, a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to misophonia research, education, and advocacy.
